Tottenham name a 35-player squad for their Australia tour

Tottenham Hotspur have named a thirty-five-player squad for their trip to New Zealand and Australia. The group will play Auckland FC, Sydney FC and Chelsea. It is the first overseas tour led by head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

The squad combines senior players, summer signings and academy prospects. Several internationals remain in England because of injury or extended leave. The travelling group will train together throughout the tour.

Five players signed this summer join the tour

Sandro Tonali, Andy Robertson and Jan Paul van Hecke are included. Mateus Fernandes and Kota Takai complete the group of five summer additions.

The five newcomers travel with established senior players and academy graduates. Their first tour contains three matches across seven days.

Roberto De Zerbi leads Tottenham overseas for the first time. The club appointed him before the start of pre-season.

The thirty-five-player list includes three goalkeepers, senior internationals and several academy prospects. All are scheduled to train during the trip.

First-team forwards travel with the squad

James Maddison, Dominic Solanke and Richarlison appear on the list. Mathys Tel, Manor Solomon and Mikey Moore also travel. The group gives Tottenham several ways to organise the front line.

Conor Gallagher, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray appear among the midfielders. Reiss Russell-Denny and Rio Kyerematen add academy representation.

Micky van de Ven and Kevin Danso lead the experienced defenders travelling. Ben Davies, Destiny Udogie and Andy Robertson are also included.

The goalkeeper group contains Brandon Austin, Martin Dubravka and Antonin Kinsky. Guglielmo Vicario does not travel because of a minor training injury. The other three goalkeepers join the tour.

Injuries and post-tournament leave explain the absences

Mohamed Kudus, Xavi Simons, Dejan Kulusevski and Wilson Odobert remain in London. Each continues rehabilitation. The club did not place one shared return date on those players.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr received extended leave after World Cup duty. Pedro Porro, Marcos Senesi, Cristian Romero and Djed Spence are also unavailable after long tournament runs.

Injured players continue rehabilitation at the London training base. Recent World Cup players received extra recovery time. Both groups therefore stayed in London.

The absences therefore have two stated causes: rehabilitation and post-tournament leave. Tottenham listed each player in the relevant group.

Auckland FC are Tottenham’s first opponents on the tour

Tottenham first meet Auckland FC at Eden Park on July 26. The opponent enters as the A-League champion. That game begins the tour before the squad travels to Sydney.

Sydney FC then face Tottenham at Allianz Stadium on July 29. Kick-off is scheduled for 7.45pm local time.

Tottenham finish the tour against Chelsea at Accor Stadium on August 1. The London clubs know each other well, but this remains a pre-season fixture.

The three fixtures take place across one week. Auckland, Sydney and Chelsea provide the complete tour schedule.

Academy players join the senior tour

Damola Ajayi, Jamie Donley and Mason Melia are among the younger attackers. Tye Hall, Tyrese Hall and Malachi Hardy also travel. The list includes several players still building senior experience.

Harry Byrne, Tye Hall and Tyrese Hall also appear on the list. Malachi Hardy and Dylan Thompson complete another group of academy travellers.

Several prospects already trained at Hotspur Way during the opening weeks. The overseas trip extends that work into three senior fixtures.

The list also contains Mason Melia, Mikey Moore and Yang Min-Hyeok. Each belongs to Tottenham’s younger attacking group.

Damola Ajayi, Jamie Donley and Dane Scarlett add further forward options. Their inclusion brings the travelling total to thirty-five.

Tottenham published the complete squad before departure. The three-match programme begins at Eden Park on July 26.

Tottenham will play two matches in Sydney

Tottenham face Sydney FC at Accor Stadium on July 25. A second match against Newcastle United follows there on July 28.

The travelling list contains Guglielmo Vicario, Antonin Kinsky, Brandon Austin and Luca Gunter. Four goalkeepers therefore joined the tour.

Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro appear among the senior defenders. Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall travel with the midfield group.

The forward list includes Richarlison, Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke and Mathys Tel. Mohammed Kudus also joined the thirty-five players.
