Richarlison scores late as Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-1

Tottenham defeated Chelsea 2-1 in a lively preseason match at Sydney’s Accor Stadium. Sandro Tonali and Estevao scored four minutes apart during the first half. Richarlison then decided the match in added time.

Tottenham played almost the entire second half with ten players. Kevin Danso received a red card after stopping Joao Pedro’s run. Chelsea controlled possession but failed to convert several close chances.

Tonali opened the scoring from outside the area

Chelsea began with active movement from Cole Palmer and Estevao. Tottenham settled after the opening minutes and moved Tonali closer to the attacking line. Manor Solomon then supplied the decisive pass.

Tonali received the ball near the edge of the box after seventeen minutes. His right-footed shot took a small deflection and beat the goalkeeper. Tottenham had turned a balanced start into the opening goal.

The midfielder also supported early build-up from a deeper position. He repeatedly offered a simple passing route around Chelsea’s pressure. That work helped Tottenham move through central areas.

Chelsea did not remain behind for long. Jamie Gittens found room on the left four minutes later. His precise cross reached Estevao inside the six-yard area.

Estevao answered with a close-range header

Estevao met Gittens’ delivery without a defender close enough to challenge. The Brazilian directed his header past Antonin Kinsky. Chelsea restored level terms after twenty-one minutes.

The scorer remained Chelsea’s most dangerous wide player before half-time. His movement helped Palmer connect several attacks. Tottenham later reduced those spaces by pressing higher.

Mathys Tel almost produced an exceptional second Tottenham goal. He turned inside the area and attempted a lifted finish. The ball missed, but the move showed Chelsea’s difficulty against direct attacks.

Joao Pedro also had a chance from inside the area before the interval. His shot passed close to the post. The teams reached half-time level after exchanging periods of control.

Danso’s red card changed the match

Tottenham introduced Danso and Richarlison at the interval. Only two minutes later, Joao Pedro broke clear toward goal. Danso brought him down before the forward could shoot.

The referee showed a direct red card after forty-eight minutes. Tottenham immediately moved into a deeper shape with five defenders and four midfielders. Richarlison remained the only forward.

Chelsea then controlled possession around the penalty area. Estevao forced Kinsky into a close-range save. The goalkeeper reacted quickly and kept the score level.

Another Chelsea attempt followed after several passes inside the area. Kinsky again blocked the finish. Tottenham’s compact line survived the first period after the dismissal.

Tottenham remained dangerous on counterattacks

Chelsea continued holding the ball but offered fewer runs behind the defence. Dario Essugo became more involved in the passing. Tottenham waited for mistakes and attacked open space quickly.

Rio Kyerematen provided the clearest warning after eighty-three minutes. His powerful shot from outside the box struck the crossbar. Chelsea had committed several players forward before the counter.

Kyerematen later left the pitch after receiving treatment. Tottenham continued defending with little time remaining. Chelsea still searched for a winner rather than protecting the draw.

That decision created one last transition. Tottenham moved the ball into the area during added time. A rebound fell near Richarlison in front of goal.

Richarlison converted Tottenham’s final chance

Richarlison reacted before Chelsea’s defenders and finished the loose ball. The strike arrived during the last major action. Tottenham had turned a rare late attack into the winning goal.

Chelsea had controlled most of the second half against ten players. Kinsky’s saves and a narrow defensive block protected Tottenham. The missed chances became more costly after Richarlison scored.

Tonali’s opening display and Kinsky’s goalkeeping were central to the result. Estevao supplied Chelsea’s equaliser and created further danger. Danso’s dismissal forced the match into an unexpected pattern.

Tottenham left Sydney with a victory built on resilience and one final counter. Chelsea gained long periods of attacking practice but lacked the final finish. The score reflected decisive moments rather than possession alone.

Kyerematen came closest to giving Chelsea the lead during the closing stages. His effort struck the crossbar after Tottenham had spent a long period with ten players. Richarlison then punished the final unsuccessful attack.

The friendly included pressure, a dismissal and a late winning goal. Tonali and Estevao supplied the first-half quality. Tottenham’s defensive work after the red card gave Richarlison the chance to decide the contest.
