Chelsea Women beat A-League All Stars 3-0 in Sydney

Chelsea Women defeated the A-League Women All Stars 3-0 at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. Sandy Baltimore and Sjoeke Nusken scored during Chelsea’s fast start.

Substitute Lexi Potter added the third goal during the second half. The match completed Chelsea’s preseason visit to Australia.

Chelsea used a strong starting team

Chelsea selected several experienced international players for the final match of the tour. Lauren James, Lucy Bronze and Ellie Carpenter all started. Alyssa Thompson joined Baltimore and Nusken in the attacking group. The selection gave Chelsea pace on both sides from the first minute.

The All Stars were captained by Tameka Yallop. Their starting team also included Makala Woods, Kayla Morrison and goalkeeper Courtney Newbon. This was only the second match played by the A-League Women All Stars. The squad brought together players from different Australian clubs.

Baltimore opened the scoring

Chelsea created the first goal with a direct move from their own half. Thompson received the ball on the left and carried it forward. She then passed across the area toward Baltimore. The forward controlled the pass and curled her shot against the inside of the post. The finish gave Chelsea an early lead and forced the All Stars to defend more space. Thompson continued attacking the same side after the restart. Chelsea’s first goal showed the value of a quick forward pass. The move reached the penalty area before the home defence could recover.

Thompson helped create the second goal with an inward cross from the left. The All Stars could not clear the ball near the centre. Nusken adjusted her body and struck a low volley. The shot travelled through the area and entered the bottom corner.

Chelsea had scored twice within the opening eleven minutes. Both attacks began on the left and ended with controlled finishes. Newbon had little time to react to the second effort. Nusken met the loose ball before a defender could close the angle.

The All Stars created a chance through McKenna

The home side produced its best first-half opening after twenty-four minutes. Yallop released Aideen Keane along Chelsea’s right side. Keane reached the area and pulled the ball back toward the middle. Her pass ran slightly behind the arriving captain.

Leticia McKenna collected the loose ball and shot over the crossbar. The move brought the home support into the match. Chelsea retained the two-goal lead until half-time. A later stoppage followed when a cross struck Keane in the face.

Keane returned after the break

Keane was able to continue in the second half. She soon carried the ball past Bronze and entered the penalty area. Her shot did not bend back toward the target. The effort travelled behind for a goal kick without testing the goalkeeper. Chelsea then held the ball for longer periods. Carpenter and Bronze advanced on the right with substitute Maika Hamano. The All Stars stayed organised and prevented another immediate goal. They still found it difficult to keep possession after winning the ball.

Chelsea scored for the third time after another run by Thompson. Her pass changed direction inside a crowded part of the field. Giulia Dragoni touched the ball toward Potter outside the penalty area. The nineteen-year-old substitute controlled it before shooting. Potter drove the ball into the top corner from just outside the box. Newbon stretched toward the shot but could not reach it. The third goal confirmed Chelsea’s control of the second half. It also gave a young player a notable moment against senior opposition.

The final score reflected Chelsea’s finishing

Chelsea converted its early pressure into two goals rather than only possession. The early advantage shaped the pace of the remaining contest. The All Stars created several promising entries but did not place enough shots on target. Their best moves ended before a clear finish. Chelsea remained composed after the interval and added one more accurate strike. Potter’s goal removed any remaining doubt about the result. The match ended 3-0 at Allianz Stadium. Baltimore, Nusken and Potter were the three scorers for the English club.

The All Stars improved after the difficult opening eleven minutes. Their midfield stayed closer together and Chelsea found less space through the centre. Yallop helped move the home team forward while Keane attacked from the right. McKenna’s shot remained their clearest first-half attempt. The stronger period did not produce a goal, so Chelsea carried the full advantage into the break. Carpenter was playing in Australia against a selection from the league where she began her senior career. She advanced repeatedly after half-time and combined with Bronze and Hamano. Chelsea’s third goal came after Thompson moved inside. Dragoni then made the short pass that allowed Potter to shoot from outside the area. Baltimore, Nusken and Potter scored with three different types of finish. Baltimore curled the ball from inside the area, while Nusken struck a low volley. Potter completed the result with a high shot from longer range. The variety reflected Chelsea’s control from wide positions and central spaces. Newbon faced difficult efforts even when the home defence recovered its shape. Chelsea also managed the second half without rushing every attack. The All Stars continued competing and reached several useful positions, but their final passes did not create a goal.

The result was settled by three accurate finishes rather than a large number of simple chances. The match closed Chelsea’s preseason programme in Australia. It also gave the combined home squad a rare game against a leading European club. The All Stars had limited preparation because their players came from several teams. Their stronger period after the opening goals showed that the group adjusted during the match. Chelsea’s established player connections remained more consistent throughout the evening. Thompson created problems throughout the evening, while the three scorers completed separate moves. The final whistle confirmed a 3-0 result at Allianz Stadium. Baltimore, Nusken and Potter supplied the goals in separate phases of the match. James and Thompson tested the home defence from the opening phase, but they did not need to score themselves. Thompson supplied the pass for Baltimore and delivered the cross that preceded Nusken’s finish. She also carried the ball during the move for Potter’s goal. Those actions connect all three scoring sequences without changing the identity of the finishers. The All Stars continued using Yallop as a central passing option and Keane as a runner from the right. Their attacks reached Chelsea’s area several times, although the last shot or pass lacked precision. The final score remained unchanged after Potter’s strike.
