Aston Villa beat BG Pathum United during Thailand visit

Aston Villa beat BG Pathum United 3-1 during their pre-season visit to Thailand. Emi Buendia, Victor Lindelof and Boubacar Kamara scored for the Premier League club. The home side replied once in front of its own support.
Villa played their second match of the Asian tour after beating Indonesia All Stars. The start in Pathum Thani was delayed because of heavy rain. The teams then completed the full friendly without another interruption.
Villa began with a mixed starting team
Marco Bizot started in goal for Villa. Matty Cash, TJ Carroll, Lindelof and Triston Rowe formed the back line. Lamare Bogarde and Joao Gomes began in midfield. Alysson, Buendia and Alejandro Garnacho supported Evann Guessand in attack. The group included senior players, recent arrivals and academy graduates. Unai Emery also named an experienced bench. John McGinn, Pau Torres, Tammy Abraham and Ian Maatsen were among the substitutes. Kamara also returned to the match squad after a long injury absence. Several younger players completed the travelling group.
Villa entered the game after a 3-1 win over Indonesia All Stars. The BG Pathum match was their fifth friendly of pre-season. Bayern Munich provides the next opponent on 7 August. The delayed kick-off placed both teams in difficult conditions. Players had waited through the rain before beginning their warm-up again. The match still developed at a steady pace.
Buendia finished a move from the right
Villa created the opening goal through several passes on the right side. Bogarde helped move the ball forward before Cash reached the space behind the defence. The full-back then sent a low pass into the area. Buendia followed the attack and met Cash’s delivery. His finish gave Villa the lead and completed a move involving four players. Alysson had also helped the passing sequence develop. The goal was another pre-season contribution from Buendia. He had already scored during the earlier part of Villa’s preparations. His place behind Guessand gave him frequent contact with the ball.
Cash supplied the final pass after moving beyond the first defensive line. Bogarde started the key exchange from a deeper position. Buendia arrived later and found room for the shot. BG Pathum remained in the match after falling behind. The home side continued to attack in front of its own supporters. Villa therefore carried only a narrow advantage into the next phase.
Lindelof headed in Alysson’s corner
Villa’s second goal came from a corner delivered by Alysson. Lindelof moved into the penalty area and met the cross with his head. The defender directed the ball beyond the goalkeeper. The finish gave Alysson a direct role in the score. He had already contributed to the move before Buendia’s opener. His corner then created a different route to goal. Lindelof started in central defence beside Carroll and the two full-backs. His main work remained at the other end of the pitch. The set piece gave him one clear attacking opportunity.
BG Pathum later reduced the deficit to one goal. The home response changed the score to 2-1 and kept the friendly competitive. Villa did not add another goal before making several changes. Substitutions brought McGinn, Torres, Abraham, Maatsen and other players into the game. Kamara replaced Bogarde around the hour mark. His return quickly produced the final goal.
Kamara scored moments after returning
Kamara entered during the second half after spending months outside the team. His appearance was one of the main events of Villa’s evening. The midfielder then scored almost immediately. The goal restored Villa’s two-goal advantage. Kamara moved into an advanced position and completed the chance calmly. His teammates gathered around him after the finish. Villa finished the match with three scorers from different parts of the team. Buendia began behind the striker, Lindelof started in defence and Kamara entered from midfield. No player scored more than once.

The match squad also included academy players Madjo, Burrowes, Hemmings and Lynch. Villa used the friendly to involve much of the travelling group. The result remained 3-1 until full-time. Villa now travel to Germany for the Bayern Munich friendly. Paris Saint-Germain then await in the UEFA Super Cup on 12 August. The Thailand victory completed the middle stop of that schedule.
The starting group covered every part of the squad
Bizot was the only goalkeeper in Villa’s starting team. Cash and Lindelof supplied senior experience across the defence. Carroll and Rowe received another chance during the tour. Gomes and Bogarde shared the first midfield duties. Alysson and Garnacho started on the outside of the attack. Buendia played close to Guessand through the centre.
The bench allowed Emery to replace players across every line. Torres and Maatsen entered from the senior defensive group. Abraham and Madjo provided different options in attack. Kamara’s inclusion carried extra importance after his injury. He did not start, but his second-half entrance marked another step in his return. The quick goal added a memorable finish.
The tour continues with two major fixtures
Villa’s next friendly takes place against Bayern Munich on 7 August. That match closes the club’s sequence of standard pre-season fixtures in Asia and Europe. The UEFA Super Cup follows five days later. Villa qualified through their Europa League title, while Paris Saint-Germain arrive as European champions. The match takes place on 12 August.
Several players received long appearances against BG Pathum. Others entered for shorter second-half spells. Villa scored three times before travelling to face Bayern Munich.
The scoring came from three different roles
Buendia began behind the central forward and opened the scoring from Cash’s delivery. Lindelof then moved forward from central defence for Alysson’s corner. Their goals gave Villa two different attacking routes before half-time. Kamara started on the bench after his long injury absence. He replaced Bogarde during the second half and scored soon after entering. The final scorer was therefore the only one who did not begin the match.
Villa used senior players and academy members during the same evening. Carroll and Rowe started in defence, while Madjo, Burrowes, Hemmings and Lynch were available among the substitutes. The travelling group received minutes across every part of the team.
