Hertha scored three first-half goals in a 4-1 win over Heidenheim

Hertha BSC defeated Heidenheim 4-1 during the second Bundesliga 2 round. The Berlin team scored three times before half-time. A late fourth goal completed the home victory.

Sebastian Grønning, Marten Winkler, Deyovaisio Zeefuik and Oluwaseun Adewumi scored for Hertha. Jan Schöppner supplied Heidenheim’s only goal shortly after the interval.

Grønning opened the scoring after two minutes

Hertha moved ahead almost immediately at the Olympiastadion. Grønning scored in the second minute and gave the hosts an ideal start. Heidenheim had little time to settle before falling behind. The early goal allowed Hertha to play with an advantage. Heidenheim still had most of the match available for a response. The next important moment instead brought another home goal.

Hertha had also scored first during its opening league match. That earlier lead produced a 1-0 victory away to Bochum. Grønning’s finish continued the same strong start in Berlin.

Winkler doubled the lead during the first half

Marten Winkler scored Hertha’s second goal after twenty-six minutes. The finish widened the gap before Heidenheim could equalise. Hertha now controlled the score with more than an hour remaining. Winkler’s goal came twenty-four minutes after the opener. The two strikes gave the home team a clear platform. Heidenheim faced another difficult period before the interval.

Hertha did not protect the two-goal lead by dropping away from the match. The hosts continued to find space in attacking areas. A third scorer soon appeared on the match record.

Zeefuik made it 3-0 before half-time

Deyovaisio Zeefuik added the third goal in the thirty-fifth minute.

Three different Hertha players had now scored. The complete first-half burst covered only thirty-three minutes. Heidenheim reached the interval with a three-goal deficit. The visitors had won their first league match despite conceding three times. Another open contest was developing in Berlin.

Hertha entered the break in a much stronger position than one week earlier. The team had needed one goal to win at Bochum. It produced three before the interval against Heidenheim.

Schöppner reduced the deficit after the restart

Jan Schöppner scored for Heidenheim in the forty-ninth minute. His goal arrived four minutes after the second half began. The visitors reduced the score to 3-1 with plenty of time left. Heidenheim had shown scoring power in the opening round. The team defeated Osnabrück 4-3 at home. Schöppner’s goal in Berlin briefly offered another route back into a high-scoring match.

Hertha kept the two-goal advantage after conceding. Heidenheim did not add a second goal during the remaining minutes. The next change to the score came at the opposite end.

Adewumi completed the result in the final minute

Oluwaseun Adewumi scored Hertha’s fourth goal in the ninetieth minute. His late finish restored the three-goal margin. It also gave the match a fourth different home scorer. The final whistle confirmed Hertha’s second victory in two league matches. The team has scored five goals and conceded once. Both victories arrived against clubs with recent Bundesliga experience.

Heidenheim left Berlin with its first defeat of the season. Seven goals had brought victory against Osnabrück.

Hertha joined Nürnberg on six points

Hertha finished Saturday with six points from two matches. Nürnberg also reached six after beating Greuther Fürth. Nürnberg held first place through a slightly stronger goal difference. Hertha stood second with a difference of plus four. Nürnberg led the table with a goal difference of plus five. Heidenheim occupied seventh place with three points and a difference of minus two.

The third league round begins after the cup weekend. Hertha travels to Eintracht Braunschweig, while Heidenheim hosts Dynamo Dresden. Both matches take place at the end of August.

The opening rounds produced different defensive records

Hertha allowed one goal across its first two matches. The team scored once in Bochum and four times at home. That balance produced five goals for and one against. Heidenheim’s two matches contained twelve goals. The club scored four against Osnabrück and one in Berlin. It conceded three during the first victory and four during the second-round defeat.

Hertha’s six points came with two different winning margins. Heidenheim’s three points followed one narrow win and one heavy loss. Those records explain their early positions in the table.
