Manchester United draw 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg

Manchester United drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg. Ibrahim Mbaye scored for Paris inside two minutes before Bryan Mbeumo equalised.

United created the stronger chances after the early setback. PSG introduced several players who had returned from the World Cup, but neither side found a second goal.

Paris scored from its first attack

Dro Fernandez delivered a dangerous cross during the opening passage. Mbaye reached the ball and gave Paris the lead before United had settled into the match. The early goal forced Michael Carrick’s side to respond without changing its shape. United kept possession more calmly and began moving the ball into wider areas.

Noussair Mazraoui made his first appearance after the World Cup. He was the only change to the lineup that had started the previous friendly against Atletico Madrid. Leny Yoro moved to the bench after starting the first three pre-season matches. Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot were also available among the substitutes.

Mbeumo continued his strong pre-season scoring run

United’s pressure produced an equaliser before the interval. Mbeumo completed the move and recorded his third goal across two matches. The finish followed his productive display against Atletico Madrid. His movement again gave United a direct option behind the opposing defensive line.

United did not treat the equaliser as the end of its attacking work. The English side continued reaching shooting positions while Paris protected the area around its goalkeeper. The score remained level at half-time. Both goals came during a first period that began quickly and then settled into a more balanced rhythm.

Both benches changed the second half

PSG used several senior internationals after the break. Their return increased the experience on the pitch and gave the French side fresher options in possession. United also welcomed back familiar players during the match. Carrick distributed minutes while preserving the main structure used throughout pre-season.

Frequent substitutions reduced the continuity of some attacks. New partnerships needed time to find distances after entering against opponents already involved in the game. United still produced promising moments during the second period. Paris defended them without conceding another clear finish inside the six-yard area.

The match supplied a different level of opposition

Paris entered the summer as the reigning European champion. Its squad offered United a stronger comparison than a routine training match. United had already faced Wrexham, Rosenborg and Atletico Madrid. The meeting in Sweden added another opponent with Champions League experience.

A draw does not carry league points, but the match provided a full stadium and competitive pace. Those conditions helped both sides assess players returning at different times. The early concession also gave United a useful response test. Carrick’s team recovered without rushing every attack and reached the interval on level terms.

United leave Sweden with the score settled

The final whistle confirmed a 1-1 result. Mbaye remained Paris’s scorer, while Mbeumo supplied United’s answer before half-time. United’s next preparations continue before the Premier League begins on 21 August. Fitness and availability will shape the final training block.

PSG also have domestic and European demands ahead. Their World Cup returnees can build minutes after joining the summer programme later than other team-mates. The Gothenburg match ended without a winner, but its main events were clear. Paris struck immediately, United responded, and both defences held throughout the second half.

An early goal placed United behind

Paris Saint-Germain scored during the second minute. Ibrahim Mbaye finished after Dro Fernandez supplied the pass into the attacking area. The early goal forced United to respond for almost the entire match. The team gradually improved its possession after the difficult opening.

Bryan Mbeumo equalised before halftime. His finish restored a level score before the two managers began making larger changes. Mbeumo has now scored in consecutive pre-season appearances. The goal also gave United a direct answer against a strong European opponent.

Mazraoui returned after the World Cup

Noussair Mazraoui made his first United appearance since returning from international duty. His minutes added another senior option to the defensive group. The second half contained several substitutions from both teams. Those changes reduced continuity but allowed more players to enter a demanding match.

Michael Carrick’s side did not concede again after the second-minute goal. United also remained unable to turn the equaliser into a victory. The 1-1 draw completed the Gothenburg fixture with an even result. Both goals arrived before the later sequence of changes.

The response arrived before the interval

Paris Saint-Germain scored first, but Mbeumo restored level terms before halftime. Neither side found another finish after the break.

The draw therefore contained one successful attack from each team. United also gave Mazraoui competitive minutes after his return to the squad.
