Abdukodir Khusanov signs new Manchester City contract until 2031

Abdukodir Khusanov has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City. The agreement keeps the Uzbekistan defender at the club until the summer of 2031.

City extend Khusanov’s contract after his first full season

Khusanov joined Manchester City from Lens during the winter transfer window of 2025. His first agreement was due to run until the summer of 2029.

The new contract adds two more years to that original end date. City made the announcement after Khusanov completed his first full English season.

He became a regular central defender during the second half of the campaign. The club recorded forty-seven appearances across his first eighteen months in Manchester.

Khusanov started sixteen of City’s final nineteen Premier League matches last season. That run placed him beside Marc Guehi in the centre of defence.

Their partnership remained in place during an important part of City’s schedule. Khusanov also played in the successful FA Cup and League Cup finals.

Those appearances gave him two domestic trophies during his first full campaign. City later included him among three finalists for its player of the season award. Academy graduate Nico O’Reilly received that prize after the club vote.

Khusanov describes Manchester as his home

The defender said the contract was an important moment for his family. He also explained that he had enjoyed his time in Manchester from the beginning.

Khusanov believes his game has developed since he entered English football. He thanked the coaches, players and staff who supported that first period.

The defender also spoke about the backing he receives from City supporters. His message focused on continued work rather than a change of role.

A longer contract now gives both sides certainty beyond the original agreement. Khusanov remains part of a defence that changed during the previous campaign.

He earned his place through repeated starts rather than one short run. The two cup finals added high-pressure matches to that experience.

His new agreement follows the same week as another major City renewal. Phil Foden had already committed his future to the club before Khusanov’s announcement.

The move from Lens began Khusanov’s Premier League career

Khusanov arrived in Manchester after establishing himself with Lens in France. The French club had signed him from Energetik-BGU in Belarus.

He quickly moved from Belarusian football into regular Ligue 1 competition. His speed and strength became central parts of his work at Lens.

City signed him after only a season and a half in French football. Khusanov was the first Uzbekistan international to play in the Premier League.

His early City months included games against several leading English and European opponents. The defender needed time to learn new instructions and improve his English.

Regular selection later showed that those barriers had become smaller. He played on both sides of central defence when the team required changes.

His recovery pace helped City defend space behind a high defensive line. Direct tackling also remained an important feature of his performances.

Khusanov also remains a regular player for Uzbekistan

Khusanov entered the summer with thirty senior appearances for Uzbekistan. He represented his country at the World Cup and played in every group match.

Those fixtures added another type of pressure to his club experience. International football had already been part of his career before the Lens move.

He also represented Uzbekistan at youth level during his early development. The senior team used him as a central defender against varied attacking styles.

City therefore renewed a player with experience across four different competitions. He has now played in Belarus, France, England and senior international football.

The World Cup came after his strongest run of matches for Manchester City. His new club contract was announced soon after that international campaign. Khusanov returns to City with his long-term position formally settled.

The new agreement keeps Khusanov at City until 2031

Director of football Hugo Viana highlighted Khusanov’s development since his arrival. He praised the defender’s character together with his physical and technical qualities.

Viana also described the new contract as recognition of work already completed. The club’s statement placed particular emphasis on speed and tackling.

Those qualities appeared throughout Khusanov’s long sequence of league starts. He started both cup finals during Manchester City’s successful season.

The defender now begins the new season under an agreement lasting to 2031. He keeps the same number and remains registered as a Manchester City player.

No transfer or loan is involved in the announcement. The change concerns the length of his existing relationship with the club. Khusanov’s first eighteen months produced regular football, two trophies and a renewed contract.
