Emmett Shaw earns a three-year scholarship with Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar have given midfielder Emmett Shaw a three-year scholarship agreement. The 17-year-old progressed through the club’s B Team. He has also played in the A-League. He chose to remain in Queensland despite interest from other Australian clubs.
Shaw made his senior debut at 16 years, nine months and three days. That appearance made him Brisbane’s third-youngest A-League player. He has since reached seven senior appearances while continuing his development programme.
The agreement rewards an internal pathway
Shaw joined Brisbane’s B Team after a strong period with Lions FC. He trained inside the Roar structure and moved close to the senior squad. The scholarship now gives that pathway a longer and clearer framework.
Sporting director James Gow described the midfielder as a Queensland player with significant potential. He also stressed the importance of giving local prospects a strong platform. Shaw’s decision keeps one of those prospects inside his home-state club.
The scholarship follows seven senior appearances rather than a short trial. Brisbane had already used Shaw in the A-League before offering the agreement. The contract now keeps him at the club for three seasons.
Brisbane described the deal as part of its Queensland development pathway. Shaw moved from Lions FC to the B Team and then the senior side. Each step took place before his eighteenth birthday.

His debut arrived during a difficult test
Shaw entered senior football against Melbourne City. He became the club’s third-youngest player in the competition. The appearance came before his 17th birthday and exposed him to the pace of a full professional match.
Six further appearances followed. His total reached seven before Brisbane announced the scholarship. Those matches moved his record beyond youth and reserve competition.
Shaw remained connected to the B Team while entering the senior squad. The club used that same route before his A-League debut. His new agreement keeps both stages inside one organisation.
His senior minutes came through starts and substitute appearances. Brisbane also retained the B Team route used before his A-League debut.

Lions FC provided his foundation
Before joining Brisbane, Shaw played for Lions FC in Queensland. The club won the 2025 NPL Queensland title. He also received its young player award after contributing during that successful campaign.
Those matches offered regular competition against older players. They helped bridge the distance between academy football and the A-League. Brisbane then brought him into a professional environment with greater training demands.
Shaw has also represented Australia at under-17 level. Those appearances added national-team football to his work with Lions FC and Brisbane. His early record therefore covers three different competition settings.
A similar local pathway shaped another recent Australian deal. Ethan Dyer’s first Sydney FC contract also followed steady progress through an academy system.

The club retained a Queensland prospect
Brisbane said other Australian clubs had shown interest in Shaw. The midfielder chose the team that had already given him seven senior appearances. His decision keeps him close to his existing support network.
Sporting director James Gow called Shaw a player with significant potential. He also linked the signing to Brisbane’s plan for local footballers. The statement focused on a pathway already used by the teenager.
Shaw joined from the Queensland league system and remained in his home state. His Lions FC award and Brisbane debut both came before the scholarship. The three-year deal follows those completed steps.
The club announced Shaw as a midfielder for the senior pathway. No transfer fee was involved because he was already inside Brisbane’s structure. The scholarship formalises his place for the next three seasons.
