Arsenal reach a verbal agreement worth up to 40 million euros for Christos Tzolis

Arsenal have reached a verbal agreement with Club Brugge for Christos Tzolis. The package could be worth up to 40 million euros. The transfer remained incomplete on July 17.

No official bid had been filed at the time of the first report. A medical and a long-term contract were expected to follow if the clubs completed the paperwork. Tzolis scored 22 goals for Club Brugge last season.

The clubs have a verbal agreement, not a completed transfer

The reported figure describes a package of fixed money and possible additions up to 40 million euros. It does not mean that every part of the deal has already been paid or guaranteed.

Arsenal and Club Brugge still have formal documents to complete, while Tzolis has the player side of the process remaining. The status on July 17 remains an advanced agreement.

Tzolis began his senior career with PAOK in Greece. He moved to Norwich City in 2021 and later spent time on loan in the Netherlands and Germany. A productive season with Fortuna Dusseldorf helped lead to his transfer to Club Brugge.

The Belgian club then gave him regular domestic and European football.

Twenty-two goals provide the recent performance record

Tzolis scored 22 times for Club Brugge in all competitions during the 2025-26 season. The total is the strongest recent number attached to the proposed move.

The goals came in Belgian and European competition. They explain part of Arsenal’s interest without being treated as a guaranteed Premier League total.

The 22-goal total covers all competitions in the 2025-26 season. It is a scoring record, not a promise that the same number will follow in England. Arsenal’s reported agreement values both the recent output and a player who is 24.

The final fee can depend on the conditions attached to the package.

Trossard’s agreed departure opens an attacking place

Arsenal agreed an 18 million euro sale of Leandro Trossard to Besiktas. That outgoing deal reduces the number of senior players who regularly start from the left.

Tzolis is a separate transfer with separate paperwork. His arrival remains subject to the medical, contract and formal agreement with Club Brugge.

A package worth up to 40 million euros usually contains a guaranteed amount and possible additions. Every condition was not public. It is therefore inaccurate to call the highest figure an immediate fixed payment.

The table uses the words ‘up to’ in the same way as the headline.

Arsenal’s incoming deal sits beside Arsenal’s agreement to sell Leandro Trossard in the same window.

A medical remains part of the process

A player normally completes medical checks before a transfer is signed. Reports said Tzolis was expected to take that step after the agreement between the clubs.

The medical and expected long-term contract remained unconfirmed on July 17.

Tzolis has played for the Greece national team and is most often used from the left. He can enter central areas, but the completed Club Brugge season remains the factual basis for the transfer.

Arsenal had not announced his shirt number, squad place or first appearance on July 17.

Tzolis arrives from a 22-goal season

The Greece international scored 22 times for Club Brugge in 2025-26. That is the clearest recent performance figure attached to the proposed transfer.

He mainly played from the left and also appeared in central attacking areas. Arsenal will define his position only after the transfer and team work are complete.

Trossard’s agreed 18 million euro move to Besiktas is separate from the Tzolis paperwork. One outgoing deal can create room for another attacker. It does not make the second transfer automatic.

Arsenal still require the medical, signed documents and formal registration before presenting Tzolis as their player.

Trossard’s departure created space in the squad

Arsenal agreed to sell Leandro Trossard to Besiktas for 18 million euros. The separate move reduced the number of senior options available from the left side.

Tzolis is a possible replacement in the squad, but he is a different player. The two transfers can be connected by timing without inventing an identical role.

The final announcement will settle the remaining details

A completed transfer requires signatures and club confirmation. Until that happens, the fee structure and contract length remain reported terms rather than a finished registration.

The accurate July 17 position is therefore narrow: a verbal agreement exists for a package worth up to 40 million euros.

The proposed move would return Tzolis to English football after his earlier Norwich period. This time he would arrive with a 22-goal season and two more years of regular European club experience.
